Jesus Wins!

By April 12, 2017August 21st, 2024No Comments

Winning teams are made up of first a winning coach. Winning coaches build winning teams. In 2015, Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway made the decision to drop John Fox and go with Gary Kubiak, who won the Super Bowl the next season. That’s the stuff of legend.

People and athletes always talk about being on a winning team. Most people hate working for a losing company and most athletes hate playing on a losing team. Losing teams, losing companies: demoralize, destroy and debilitate our morale and focus.

What if I told you every winning team had to lose first? What if I told you that winning always begins with losing? Furthermore, what if I told you that this principle didn’t come from John Wooden, Vince Lombardi, or Coach K, but Jesus Christ?

In picking his team, Jesus said, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it benefit a person if he gains the whole world but loses or forfeits himself? (Luke 9:23-24)

Jesus lived out what He spoke. He gave it all on the cross at Calvary—His reputation, His fledgling team, and most importantly, His own life. But on the third day, He won. He rose from the grave and appeared to over 500 people. This Easter Sunday we celebrate His victory.

Jesus is a winner. Jesus built the most winning team the world has ever known. It’s still the greatest movement in world history. This Sunday we join over 2 billion people all over the globe who celebrate his resurrection from the dead. Celebrate at your house of worship, and bring someone with you. Everyone wants to be a winner.

Winning with Jesus,

Steve
