No matter what happens in the next presidential election, I’m bullish on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Whatever happens in America over the next few years, I’m fired up and convinced more than ever that Jesus Christ and His Kingdom will triumph over all evil. I believe a Kingdom of God Revolution is coming to America and the entire world.
In the coming years, no matter what happens in our nation with freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the Bill of Rights, I’m confident that the rule and reign of the Kingdom of God will continue to expand.
The Book of Habakkuk as a Case Study in God’s Triumph over Evil
In studying the book of Habakkuk, the prophet is frustrated by the rise of Babylonian power bearing down on Jerusalem. The prophet, more than any other in the Old Testament, complains and argues with God over the rising violence in Judah and God’s willingness to allow the Babylonians to overtake his homeland. He writes,
“Why do You show me iniquity,
And cause me to see trouble?
For plundering and violence are before me;
There is strife, and contention arises” (Habakkuk 1:3).
In chapter two God speaks. He explains to the depressed prophet, that indeed He will bring His judgment on Babylon. But dead center in the book of Habakkuk, God makes one of the greatest declarations in the Bible.
“For the earth will be filled
With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
As the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).
It’s a turning point in Habakkuk’s life. Chapter three provides a new perspective in the prophet’s view of life. The conclusion of the book becomes a song of praise and worship to the King of kings,
“Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills” (Habakkuk 3:17-19).
Habakkuk has discovered that no matter what happens in his nation, God will continue to triumph through His Son and His Kingdom. You see, no matter the outcome of the coming election, the enthroned One is carrying out His triumph all over the globe. I resonate with the words of Peter in his inaugural sermon on Pentecost,
“The Lord said to my Lord,
‘Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool’” (Acts 2:35).
Jesus will continue to reign until every enemy of God will be made a footrest under His feet. I’m bullish on the Kingdom of God. And that’s why we continue to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
