The Joel 2 Church

By July 8, 2015Christianity

A Psalm 2 “counsel” of the nations requires a Joel 2 response from the Church. We have no other anointed option but to meet the “raging” nations with rended hearts! David writes,

Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces

And cast away Their cords from us.” (Ps 2:1-3)

The nations hate God’s ways. The political leaders over nations are growing in these last days to despise the dictates and standards that stand in their way to the full license to do what they crave and desire.

How do we respond as the Body of Christ to the fact that the nations hate the “bonds,” and “cords” of God’s Word, God’s standards, and God’s ways? Is it to picket clinics, carry signs, and wring our hands in desperation and depression? Is it to join the throng and be supposed salt and light through acceptance?

As I have pondered the recent decision for gay marriage by our sub-Supreme Court (there is only one Supreme Court) and cried out to God for His response, His heart in all of this mess, He has led me to Joel chapter 2. This I believe is the response in our growing desperate hour,

“Now, therefore,” says the Lord,
“Turn to Me with all your heart,
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”
So rend your heart, and not your garments;
Return to the Lord your God,
For He is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
And He relents from doing harm.
Who knows if He will turn and relent,
And leave a blessing behind Him—
A grain offering and a drink offering
For the Lord your God? (Joel 2:12-14)

Who knows if Jesus will not relent and pour out a blessing! What a thought. We are the only one’s on the earth who can do this, who can call out to God for a fresh work of His Spirit upon ourselves, our churches, our pastors, and our nation.

Join the people of The Road, the church I pastor, as we pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 twice daily. We are calling it “The 7.14 Prayer Initiative” and setting our alarms for 7:14 am and pm, and taking five minutes to pray for revival within ourselves, our churches, and an awakening upon our cities and our nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

A Psalm 2 crisis requires a Joel 2 church!

On the Road,

Pastor Steve will be speaking more on this topic on July 11th, Saturday night at 6pm at The Road (2025 Parliament, Colorado Springs, CO 80920)
