Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
(Matthew 5:9, NKJV)
It’s quite interesting, from a historical perspective, that one of the chief statements in the Beatitudes of Jesus is the call to be peacemakers. In reality, the Christian faith has been the most persecuted and exploited religion in the world.
No other movement has been so persecuted in the past two thousand years as Christianity. No other movement has been so exploited by greedy kings and monarchs to promote self and state interest as Christianity.
Yet, Jesus calls us sons of God whenever we come as peacemakers. What a vision—makers of peace.
Jesus modeled peace. He never forced anyone to believe; He never took up arms to protect or to power forward His mission. He was never angry except with those who manipulated the Law of God.
Jesus came as a peacemaker. He made peace where there was hatred and hostility. He made peace where there was prejudice and animosity.
What might happen in our churches, in our cities and in our families, if only we followed the command to be a peacemaker? We would turn the world right side up!
Today, go to work as a maker of peace at your job. Today, bring peace to your marriage. Today, bring peace to your parenting. For, it’s in being a maker of peace that we truly become sons and daughters of God.
Making peace,
Steve
