I believe a great spiritual revival is coming to Colorado Springs. It will flow through the pulpit to the pew. From pulpits on fire, the pews will become a spiritual inferno. The pastor will be the fire starter for the people. It seems that every time I take a prayer walk, get alone with the Lord, He takes me back to Jeremiah 20:9:
Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him,
Nor speak anymore in His name.”
But His word was in my heart like a burning fire
Shut up in my bones;
I was weary of holding it back,
And I could not.
Much like Jeremiah in his day, many pastors are weary, tired, and discouraged. They have labored faithfully for years and seen little fruit. They feel depressed by the problems of society and the issues of their church. Being a pastor is a high calling and a daunting task for sure.
I know the feeling and I’ve experienced such anxiety. I have known times in the past in which I felt so discouraged that it was as if everything I believed in about the church had been ripped apart.
As I’ve prayed for pastors, I have written these words in the margin of my Bible next to Jeremiah 20:9: “The fire of God mediated through the Word of God lighting up the pulpit of God to the people of God.” This is the theme God has given me for pastors in our city.
Lord, light the fire and start with me.
Contending for fire,
Steve
