The Rockefeller Foundation and The Rise of Big Pharma Part 4

If you haven’t read the first three parts of this series, they can be found here.

A Cure for Cancer?

Could it be that the discovery of Laetrile would be the miracle drug to cure cancer? It sure seemed to be a miracle! In the 1970s all clinical lab tests proved to completely wipe out cancer.

Could it be that cancer would become a disease of the past and thousands could be healed with Laetrile? The only problem were the three Rockefellers sitting on the board of Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (financed by the Rockefeller Foundation), as well as a dozen representatives of companies making significant money from Big Pharma and cancer research. As one reporter said, “all hell broke loose” with the seemingly miracle working conclusions of the use of Laetrile. Another round of tests was ordered. Unfortunately for Big Pharma, the second round of tests only confirmed the first. A third test once again proved the healing powers of Laetrile. Had a cure for cancer been found?

Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

At the hearing, Sloan-Kettering executives famously asserted, “There is not a particle of scientific evidence to suggest that Laetrile possesses any anti-cancer properties at all…” completely ignoring not one, not two, but three full lab tests of scientific evidence from the “preeminent cancer researcher in America,” Dr. Kanematsu Sugiura. As a result of the testimony, Laetrile was officially banned nationwide by 1980.

Afterwards, Dr. Sugiura was asked why Sloan-Kettering was against Laetrile? Sugiura insightfully answered, “Maybe the medical profession doesn’t like it because they are making too much money.” Other researchers under the guidance of Sloan-Kettering, did similar experiments, secretly injecting the mice with proteolytic enzymes to their injections. This data was buried. They then changed the protocols of the tests to guarantee failure. Sloan-Kettering’s motives were clearly revealed in the minutes of a meeting that top officials held July 2, 1974. All of the officials were convinced that Laetrile was effective, but the minutes read, “Sloan-Kettering is not enthusiastic about studying amygdalin [Laetrile] but would like to study CN (cyanide)-releasing drugs.”

Sloan-Kettering wanted a man-made patented chemical to mimic the qualities found in amygdalin, because that’s where the money was to be made. If cancer could be healed through a lowly apricot seed, as one writer wrote, “it would spell economic disaster for the cancer industry.”[1]
