God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. – 1 Corinthians 1:27
Boastful, prideful, and arrogant people often hold the highest places, while the prayerful, humble, and patient live in obscurity. Men of low character rule, while the servants of integrity are pushed to the sidelines. Charles Spurgeon called it “the riddle of providence.”
Haman is in the court while Mordecai sits at the gate; David lives in caves as Saul reigns in power; Jezebel enjoys the luxury of the palace while Elijah runs for his life. Jesus lived the low profile of a wandering prophet while Herod ruled from a throne. The servants of Satan lord it over the servants of Christ. This is the way of the kingdom of our world.
Yet Jesus said to seek a different kingdom, an upside down kingdom. In the kingdom of God the first shall be last and the last first. God most often uses the fools of this world to confound the wise. The wheels of God’s kingdom will turn and when they turn, the lowest rise and the highest sink.
Once there was a man who walked the parks of southern California with a sandwich board. On the front of his sign he had scrawled, “I’m a fool for Christ,” and on the back he had written, “Whose fool are you?” A nervous chuckle. But a great question. For it really is the question to consider. Whose fool am I? Whose fool are you?
We are all fools. Don’t fall into the error of feeding your pride through the positioning of sensual desires, while your noble virtues walk in the dust. Don’t become this world’s fool, be a fool for something greater than yourself—the kingdom of God. Feed your foolish kingdom faith and surrender your flesh to the caves. Be a fool. Act like a fool and may the Lord grant you His kingdom.
