Jesus never did anything halfheartedly! When he became a human, he became fully human. When he loved, he loved wholeheartedly. When he laughed and he did laugh, I imagine Jesus really laughing; laughing from his belly, full of joy and happiness.
It was CS Lewis who said, “We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
Jesus wants all of us to live wholeheartedly—fully embracing our humanity with profound, gut wrenching love and happiness. Brennen Manning once said, “We have spread so many ashes over the historical Jesus that we scarcely feel the glow of His presence anymore. He is a man in a way that we have forgotten men can be: truthful, blunt, emotional, non-manipulative, sensitive, compassionate.” Have you discovered this Jesus?
We so desperately need the historic Jesus in our lives. We long for His presence. “In His presence is fullness of joy.” (Ps 16:11, NKJV). It is in His presence that we find the wholehearted joy and happiness for which we were created. Seek His presence in your life and you will discover everything you’ve been longing for.
In His presence,
Steve
