As a new believer in Christ, I learned that God could speak to me from His Word, the Bible. It was so exciting to wake up each morning as a freshman in college and open my trusty old Lutheran Confirmation Bible and read and read and read. I started in the Gospel of John and over the next few months, read the entire Bible!

God used my reading each morning to tell me to do things that I thought were exciting.  Today, I might classify some of things I did as a bit crazy. But at the time, I was so fired up I would just do it.

Once, He told me to go to one of the most popular night clubs in Athens, Georgia and stand outside. So, I did it. It was 8 pm at night and the place was hopping. Drunk students abounded. I just stood there wondering why I’d come.

As I stood there, a young man came toward me. He walked up to me and said, “Hey man, I watched you the other night at the gymnastics meet. Man, you were incredible!” What an introduction. I thanked him. What a set up by God. And then I asked him if I could share with him something really cool. He said, “Of course.” I shared my personal testimony of coming to know Jesus Christ. He began to weep. I then had the privilege to lead him into personal faith in Christ. He became one of my first disciples and joined a Bible Study of young men I had started.

The Bible and God’s voice. It’s a powerful combination. More on this next time.
