Don’t Give up on You

I will never give up on you
I don’t care what I’ve got to lose
Just give me your hand and hold on
Together we’ll dance through this storm
I will never give up on you
You’re the one that I’m running to
Just give me your hand and hold on
Together we’ll dance through this storm

Lucie Jones, “Never Give up on You.”

People will disappoint us. Your church will let you down. Our spouse and family may not always be there in the storms of our life. It’s not a matter of if we will be ripped off, it’s a matter of when.

Life, work, marriage is unyielding in challenges and barriers to happiness. Just when we step into a new promotion or accomplishment, get ready; new complications are just around the corner.

But don’t give up on you; Jesus doesn’t. A man named Paul, while in prison for his faith wrote, “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6, NKJV). God is using hardship, disappointment and pain to form you and build into you, the man or woman who will be complete.

Some of us have seen our best intentions warped by cruel men. Some of us have watched our dreams crumble. Many of us know the agony of the break-up. The thought of quitting has shouted its possibilities into our heart.

Hold on. God is completing a good work in you. Rudyard Kipling, in his famous poem, “If,” writes, “To hold on when there is nothing in you except the will to say ‘hold on.’” For the Jesus disciple, it’s often all we have—the will to say, once again, no to quitting, and yes to God.

Don’t give up on you. He doesn’t. I don’t.

Not giving up,

Steve
